The first clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from the Argentine Society of Rheumatology (SAR) were published in 2004, followed by two updates in 2008 and 2013. "Guidelines" are a set of guidelines or recommendations based on a systematic review of the evidence and an assessment of the risks and benefits of different alternatives, with the goal of optimizing patient care. "Recommendations" refer to suggestions regarding medical care and procedures based on scientific evidence and the opinions of specialists, healthcare providers, and various official bodies. Although both concepts are similar, we decided to continue using the term "recommendations" from now on.
